Before you start removing parts from the vehicle, it is recommended to disconnect the negative battery cable. However, if your car is equipped with a theft lock radio system it will be necessary to plug a memory saver into the cigarette lighter socket. Start by loosening the metal clamp on the side of the air intake hose as shown in the image.
Next, slide the metal clamp to the side and detach the round air intake hose.
Gently pry on all four corners of the plastic cover. It is held by rubber retainers. Pry the part evenly to avoid breaking it and remove it from the vehicle.
With the cover removed you have the opportunity to inspect the air filter. To gain access to it loosen the screws that attach the air box to the cover.
Separate the air box from the engine cover.
Remove the air filter and inspect its condition. Replace if necessary.
To be able to unplug the ignition coils it will be necessary to detach them from the spark plugs to gain clearance. It is not necessary to pull them all the way out, that way you will keep them organized.
Unplug all five ignition coils.
Remove each ignition coil and make note of its location. That way, you don't mix them up. In the event that you have a weak coil you will know which one it was.
Use compressed air and a blowgun to remove any dirt particles from the spark plug tube cavity.
Using a long extension and a 3/8 drive ratchet replace one spark plug at a time. The new platinum spark plugs don't need to be gapped but it is recommended that you apply anti-seize to the threads of the spark plugs to avoid damaging the head upon installation.
Install the items in the reversed order they were removed. Start the engine, make sure that everything works properly.
