In the following pages we will illustrate how to replace the timing belt on a 1995 Ford Ranger equipped with a 4-cylinder engine.
These steps will be similar for Ford Ranger Pickups built from 1983-1997.  The older engines are equipped with a distributor.  The later models have distributorless ignition systems.

Before you start working on your vehicle make sure that you unplug the negative battery cable for safety.

Next, raise the front end of the truck and secure it with jackstands.  Make sure that the emergency brake is set and you have blocks on the rear wheels.  Place a clean container underneath the truck and proceed to drain the antifreeze by loosening the drain plug located at the bottom of the radiator as shown in the picture.

Undo the clamp on the air filter housing as shown in image.

Unplug the AIT and MAF sensors located on the air intake hose.

Detach the wire harness from the air intake hose.

Loosen the hose clamp that attaches the air intake hose to the throttle body.  Remove the air intake hose and set it aside.

Remove the upper radiator hose.

Remove the two bolts that secure the fan shroud to the radiator.  Remove it from the engine.

With the serpentine belt still on the engine proceed to loosen the fan clutch bolts.  It is not necessary to fully remove them yet.

Using a 3/8 drive ratchet release the tension from the serpentine belt tensioner and remove the belt from the engine.

Make sure that you have the diagram for the serpentine belt routing.  If you don't, draw it out on a piece of paper before removing the belt.

Remove the fan clutch bolts and remove the fan assembly from the engine.
