In this page we will illustrate how to replace the front wheel bearing/hub assembly on a 1996 Dodge Caravan.

Start by making sure that the vehicle is in park, that the emergency brake is applied, and you place blocks on the rear wheels for safety.

Lift the front end of the vehicle, secure it with two jackstands and proceed to remove the brake caliper bolts as shown in the image.

Slide the brake caliper out and tie it to the coilspring using a piece of rope to keep it from hanging on the brake hose.

Remove the front brakepads.

Remove the cotter pin.

Remove the safety nut and washer.

Using an air impact remove the CV axle nut.  If you don't have access to air tools you will need to place a prybar in between the wheel studs to keep it from turning as you loosen the nut with a half-inch breaker bar.

Remove the hub retaining bolts located on the back side of the spindle as shown in the image.

Slide the hub/wheel-bearing assembly out.

Install the new hub/wheel-bearing assembly.  Tighten the CV axle nut to 105 ft lbs.  If available, install a new cotter pin.  Install the remaining items in the reverse order that they were removed.
