Unplug the remaining electrical connectors from the ignition coils and the fuel injectors, move the wiring harness out of the way, remove the nuts that secure the ignition coils in place and remove the ignition coils from the engine.
It will be necessary to remove the fuel rail assembly before removing the intake manifold, to avoid dirt from entering the intake ports, blow all the dirt around each fuel injector with compressed air as shown in the image.
Remove the bolts that secure the fuel rail to the intake manifold, loosen the intake manifold studs and bolts.
Pull straight up on the fuel rail on each side, you should be able to remove the entire fuel rail as an assembly without excessive force. remove all the intake manifold bolts and studs and remove the intake manifold from the engine.
Cover the intake ports with towels to keep dirt particles from entering the ports, do the same with the fuel injectors.
Remove the left and right valve covers.
It is not necessary to disconnect the lines from the air compressor, by doing so you would lose all the freon contained in the AC system, how we did it, we tied a wire from each inner fenders and we used it to hold the AC compressor near its original location while we removed the remaining components.
Remove the lower radiator hose and both heater hoses, note that the thermostat in this particular engine is located in the lower water outlet seen in this picture, we don't show how to replace it in this page because the owner replaced it before bringing the truck to our shop.
Remove the bolts located all around the timing cover and remove the timing cover from the engine.
To make it easier to keep the correct timing upon installation, mark the relationship of the lower timing chain sprockets as shown in the image.
Do the same with the timing chains around the camshaft sprockets, the chains have colored links that can be used to install the chains in their correct location in the event that you forget to mark the chains like we did.
Both ways will work, is just that we opted to install the chains exactly the way they were before we removed them from the engine.
