Google

- In the following pages we are going to show you how to replace or remove a fuel tank ( gas tank ), some times removing the fuel tank is a necessary procedure to gain access to the in tank fuel pump.

In other cases, there may be a need to remove a corroded or rusty fuel tank , or gas tank to replace it with a new one.

We will show you step by step how to do it, plus we will illustrate this procedure with pictures to allow you to visualize the process clearly and prepare you to do it yourself and save money.

We will have different vehicles, different makes and models as we get them in our shop, we will document each job, and we'll upload the procedure to the website as we go.

The first vehicle we are going to illustrate how to remove the fuel tank from is a Chevy Astro Van, this process applies to most GM vehicles, weather they are cars or trucks.

1- Lift the vehicle with a floor jack and secure it with jack stands, next relieve the fuel pressure and remove the negative battery cable.

Next proceed to remove the hose clamp from the fuel tank filler hose ( this is the house you put gas in )

2- Next remove the bolt that secures the filler hose bracket in place, once the bolt is off, pry the hose away from the fuel tank

3- Remove the fuel tank's shield

4- Next remove the hose clamps from the fuel lines, and fuel vapor canister, unplug them from the fuel tank module, unplug the electrical connector .

5- Slide a jack under the fuel tank and maintain slight pressure against it.

6- With the floor jack securing the fuel tank in place, remove the bolts that hold the fuel tank retaining straps in place and move them out of the way.

Next proceed to lower the fuel tank slowly  all the way down, once it is all the way down slide the jack and fuel tank from under the vehicle.

The steps we just mentioned are to remove the fuel tank in a Chevy Astro Van, the same steps apply to most GM vehicles, but as we get a chance, we will illustrate more cars and trucks as we get them in our shop.
