In the following pages we will illustrate how to replace the timing belt kit on 1994-2004 Lexus ES 300 and RX 300, since this is  a Toyota engine  1MZ-FE , the steps described will be similar for the following vehicles:
1994-2004 Toyota Avalon 3.0 L,  1994-2004 Toyota Camry 3.0 L, 1994-2004 Toyota Sienna 3.0 L.

The vehicle we are working on is a 1997 Lexus ES 300 equipped with a 3.0 L V-6 engine.



























 







 Before you start working on your vehicle raise the front end with a floor jack and secure it with jack stands, disconnect the negative battery cable and proceed to detach the wiring harness located on top of the upper timing cover as shown in the image.


















 Next, remove the 3 bolts that hold the small bracket seen in the image and remove it from the engine.
















 Remove the bolt that fastens the engine torque strut to the body of the vehicle.



















 Remove the bolts that fasten the engine torque strut to the engine and remove it from the engine.



















 Detach the coolant overflow hose from the water outlet.























 Unplug both negative wires for easier access to the timing cover.

















 Using a small screwdriver pry gently on the plastic tabs and slide the remaining wiring harness away from the timing cover.
















 Loosen the larger alternator bolt, but don't attempt to remove it.


















 Loosen the bolt located in the opposite side that keeps the adjuster from moving, next, loosen the alternator belt by turning the adjusting bolt counterclockwise, remove the belt from the engine.
















Remove the upper timing cover retaining bolts and remove the cover from the engine.
